Nowadays, buff-tailed bumblebee colonies are used at greenhouses and gardens globally by producers of greenhouse and garden products to help pollination and improve yield and quality of their products, and flora pollination yield improving, especially during cold season when pollen generation is limited, is considered as one of the quite effective solutions to improve many greenhouse and garden products, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
Multi (Garden) hive
Description
Activity under cold, cloudy, and rainy weather
Bumblebees start their activities under 5 degrees Celsius temperature, while honeybee cannot act more in a temperature less than 10 to 15 degrees Celsius. These bees insist on their exploration under windy conditions as fast as 70 Km/hr. They also leave their hives under cloudy and cold weather and pollinate, well.
Pollination of flowers without nectar
Honeybee and other pollinators mainly attract to flowers with nectar, and kiwi flowers are not attractive to them because of their lack of nectar, while bumblebee collect pollen well in male and female flora. Biobest hives have embedded water and sugar containers, and therefore, the nectar needed for the bees are also supplied inside the hive and lack of nectar in kiwi flowers does not hinder the bees’ growth
Advantages of using buff-tailed bumblebees for gardens and outdoor areas
High and effective activity
In comparison to honeybees, bumblebees visit more number of flowers per minute and flight, which results in more pollination.
Outdoor area:
apple, pear, kiwi fruit, cherry, apricot, peach, almond
Seed production in medicinal and ornamental plants
Number of needed hives per hectare of garden:
Between 2 and 3 multi hives per hectare of garden is recommended.
