Calcium is a major element used to make cell wall and membranes. Calcium is available in the middle wall of cell structure and tissue of plant as calcium pectate compound and pectin wall is protected against destruction as long as there is a sufficient content of calcium pectate. Limited availability of calcium has a significant negative effect on mitosis as well as cell wall sustainability and penetrability. Calcium-rich fruits are more suitable for transportation. At least 60% of plants calcium content is found in the cell wall, which protects the cells against microbes trying to enter into the cell by breaking the cell wall. Furthermore, calcium causes cell membrane contraction, and eventually, less cell water loss. Increasing fruit calcium content results in an increase in fruit durability, resistance against physiologic diseases such as bitter stain and blossom end rot.

Calcium is an immobile element displaced through water motion in perspiration process. Eventually, when the plant closes stomata due to any reason, and therefore, reduces perspiration, calcium absorption decreaases, accordingly. As this substance is transmitted inside the tissues slowly, therefore, it shall permanently be available to the plant. Calcium is not transferred from old to the new leaves and stem apex. Therefore, regulated calcium solution spraying onto the leaves and fruits is the best way to supply calcium to the growing fruits.
Cab is an improved formulation of CALMEX with the more boron content. Thus, it may be used to improve flowering and fruit set.
Fruit durability, better ripening and improved tolerance against environmental tensions are some of advantages of using cab.
